Using Jira as a data source

You can connect Tability to Jira Cloud to automatically pull the number of issues corresponding to a JQL query in your Jira Cloud instance, without having to switch context.

Once you add Jira Cloud as a data source for an outcome/Key Result, Tability can:

  • Automatically pull the total number of issues corresponding to your JQL query when you open the check-in form.
  • Perform a daily sync of the metric while the plan is active (Premium subscription only).

How to enable the integration

Step 1. Upgrade to the Plus or Premium subscription

You'll need to have a Plus subscription to use Jira Cloud as a data source and automatically pull the metric value in the UI for your check-ins.

You'll need to have a Premium subscription to enable the daily sync.

Step 2. Connect Tability to your Jira Cloud instance

Follow the setup steps listed here to connect Tability to Jira

How to add a data source to an outcome of Key Result

Once Jira is connected, you will be able to use it as a data source for your outcomes/KRs.

Step 1. Open up your edit panel of your outcome/KR

Click on "Edit" to open up the Edit panel of any outcome/KR in your workspace.

Step 2. Select Jira as a data source

Step 3. Add your JQL in the input field

Next you need to add your JQL query to the field. Tability will not validate your JQL so make sure that you tested in in Jira prior to adding it to Tability.

Click "Save & preview" to complete your setup.

Tability will retrieve the current number of issues matching your JQL and your screen should look like this 👇

Step 5. Enable daily sync (Premium subscriptions only)

You can now toggle the option to Enable daily sync of your metric if you're on a Premium subscription.

Tability will retrieve the value of your metric from Jira Cloud once a day, and will create a check-in on behalf of the owner of the outcome/KR.

The first data sync should happen within 1h of enabling this option.

How to use the data source in your check-ins

It's all automatic! Once an outcome/KR is connected to a data source, Tability will automatically pull the current value whenever you open up the check-in modal.
